Jan Jones Blackhurst was recently named chief executive in residence at the UNLV International Gaming Institute.

Jones Blackhurst, who was the first woman elected mayor of Las Vegas and served two terms, has more than 20 years experience on the Strip, most recently as vice president of government relations and corporate social responsibility for Caesars Entertainment.

Jones Blackhurst has been a faculty member with the institute’s Executive Development Program, a leadership academy for industry professionals.

She has also worked with the institute’s Expanding the Leaderverse initiative to promote diversity and inclusiveness in gaming leadership positions.

“We have already achieved so much, but we are not yet satisfied,” Jones Blackhurst said in a statement. “A growing body of research now shows that more inclusive leadership teams are more successful. Moving forward, we will change the culture of women in leadership, and we will not stop until this industry becomes a beacon for others to study.”

Jones Blackhurst, who left her executive position with Caesars last fall, serves on the company’s board of directors.
