New hotel set to open in North Las Vegas

In a bit of good economic news for beleaguered North Las Vegas, a SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel is set to open there on June 22.

Marriott said Wednesday the 94-suite property is opening at 2910 E. Craig Road, near Interstate 15 and the Cannery hotel-casino. It’s three miles from Nellis Air Force Base and six miles from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Marriott said.

The franchise is owned by Craig Road Suites LLC and will by managed by Sunway Hotel Group Inc. of Overland Park, Kan.

Sunway separately owns the nearby 96-room Hampton Inn Las Vegas North Speedway at 2852 E. Craig Road and the Hilton Garden Inn, 7380 S. Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas. The Hilton property has 155 rooms and 46 suites.

Called the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas North Speedway, rates at the new property begin at $104 per night, a premium compared to similar Marriott products in the Las Vegas area like the Fairfield Inn & Suites ($84 per night).

The property on 2.5 acres has a taxable value of about $2.1 million, according to the Clark County assessor. The hotel owner didn’t immediately say how many people are being hired there or how much money was invested in the development.

The new North Las Vegas hotel lifts to 18 the number of Marriott properties in the Las Vegas area operating under brands including Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, Grand Chateau and the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

The SpringHill Suites is the second newly built nongaming lodging property to open in North Las Vegas in the past 18 months.

A 242-room Value Place extended-stay property opened in February 2011 at 5300 E. Craig Road, near Las Vegas Boulevard and Nellis Air Force Base.
