Cyber, wire fraud to be topics of City National Bank forum

Preparation for the threat posed by cyber and wire fraud will be the topic of a forum hosted by City National Bank next week.

The event will take place at the Innevation Center, 6795 Edmond St., on Oct. 20. A half-hour breakfast and networking session will begin at 8 a.m., followed by an hourlong program on “The Power of Being Aware & Prepared.”

Featured speakers will include senior vice presidents of treasury management, funds transfer, digital channels and corporate security for City National Bank.

Every second, 12 people become victims of cyber fraud, said Paul Stowell, chief market strategist and senior vice president with City National Bank in Las Vegas. That equals more than 1 million people per day globally and adds up to $115 billion in costs each year.

“Cyber fraud is just becoming a huge issue, and it’s not going away anytime soon,” Stowell said.

Nevada ranked third in the nation in consumer fraud complaints and fifth in identity theft complaints per 100,000 residents in 2015, according to statistics published by the Nevada Crime and Corrections Department. A survey by the Association for Financial Professionals showed that 27 percent of companies were victims of attempted wire fraud in 2014.

One hour of Continuing Professional Education credit for Certified Public Accountants is available for attendance. RSVP at Eventbrite.
