What you first notice in the newly revamped rooms at the Palms are the eyes above the headboard.
A pair of women’s eyes gaze out from above the beds in a 16-foot mural surrounded by neon screened images of Palm leaves. It’s the most stark image in a boutique redesign of 370 standard guest rooms at the Palms — the latest in a $50 million renovation.
It’s the first room redesign in the original tower since the Palms opened in November 2001.
Palms President Joe Magliarditi said the murals are central to the new design.
“I ask people who have stayed at hotels from the Four Seasons in Manhattan to the mansions at MGM if they remember the artwork on the walls,” Magliarditi said Friday. “Usually, they can’t remember. We wanted to provide something people would remember.”
Sixteen sets of eyes decorate each room, and each explodes in rich colors. Velvet accents in deep purple trim the bed. A chaise lounge of magenta and turquoise comes apart for various seating arrangements.
“The color pop of these rooms, I believe, is something very different than has been seen before at the Palms,” Magliarditi said.
Dark wood panels cover one wall with a hidden closet and hold the flat-screen TVs and a built-in electronics hub that includes audio and video plugs, connections for VGI connections for laptop display, HDMI and USB inputs. A white leather office chair graces the desk area.
The rooms start at $79 a night.
They were designed by Klai Juba Architects of Las Vegas, whose work includes Mandalay Bay, the Hard Rock Hotel and the revamping of the Imperial Palace.
The rooms follow renovations that include a redesigned pool area, sports book and poker room.
By the end of the year, visitors will notice a new check-in area and a redesigned casino floor and center bar, and new luxury suites. New dining options, such as the Heraea sports bar, the pan-Asian restaurant Xishi and Chocolat Bistro are set to be completed by the first of year. Revamped nightclubs also are part of the project, which is expected to continue through next year.
An introductory offer on the rooms includes a $50 food credit for visitors booking a two-night stay in the Palms Tower.
