Hey, tech startups: $1 office space up for grabs in downtown Las Vegas

Holsum Lofts

Itching to move your tech startup from the living room to a real office?

If the only thing keeping you back is the rent, fret no more: Using a geeked-out application process, you can land downtown Las Vegas office space for $1 a month.

The Glenn Group, an advertising agency with offices in Las Vegas and Reno, is subleasing up to 1,000 square feet of space in its building on Charleston Boulevard at Grand Central Parkway, near the Las Vegas Premium Outlets. The company works out of Holsum Lofts, a former bakery, in suite No. 111.

Startups need to submit “an original and creative” 15-second video this month on Instagram — tagged #1DollarOfficeSpace and @TheGlennGroup — explaining why they should get office space for about 3 1/3 cents a day for up to a year. A panel of tech professionals and other downtown-types will help judge the entries, although the Glenn Group, which moved to Holsum Lofts a year ago, has the final say.

The application process is open to any startup, in Las Vegas or elsewhere, and besides the video, it includes in-person interviews. References ultimately will be required.

“Instead of using the extra office space we have for a one-legged hopscotch-basketball court, or renting it out for big dollars, we decided to do what we can to help downtown Las Vegas, and the Nevada tech industry, grow some big ideas,” President and Executive Creative Director B.C. LeDoux said in a press release.

The ad agency has about 12,890 square feet of total space at Holsum Lofts, though it already subleases 848 square feet of that to Abe Froman Productions, a video-production company, and Greg Anderson Photography.
