Convention attendees help boost Las Vegas tourism figures for July

Steve Hill, president/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), prepares for an interview before the opening of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Las Vegas welcomed just under 3.5 million visitors last month, the highest monthly total since the start of the pandemic, according to the city’s tourism bureau.

Midweek hotel occupancy in Las Vegas — generally seen as a good barometer for the health of conventions business in the city — was just under 80% last month, a 5% increase from July 2021, according to a report from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

“We’re thrilled so many travelers chose Las Vegas this summer,” said Lori Nelson-Kraft, senior vice president of communications for the LVCVA. “It’s thanks to all of our resorts and special events that keep delivering incredibly ‘Only Vegas’ experiences for our millions of visitors.”

Overall hotel occupancy came in at just over 83% last month, according to the LVCVA, which was up four percentage points from July 2021.

In all, about 307,000 attended conventions in Las Vegas in July, which was roughly double that of July 2021.

Through July, Las Vegas has tallied just over 22 million visitors this year.
