Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort

Snowboarders and skiiers hit the slopes as the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort opens Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.

Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort opened three chairlifts and one surface lift Friday morning for the winter season.

“This marks the first time in years that LVSSR will be opening for the season with all three lifts operating and enough snow to accommodate a variety of features in our all terrain park,” Kevin Stickelman, resort president and general manager said in an announcement. “Our increased snowmaking capacity, as well as recent storms, are making it possible for us to be able to open ahead of schedule.”

The resorts was originally scheduled to open Nov. 25, but opened for a short time in October after nine inches of snow fell on Mount Charleston, making it among the first resorts in the country to open this year.

The resort is still undergoing changes in a $35 million expansion that will add trails, jobs and general improvements to the valley getaway.

Upgrades include 50 trails and 10 lifts, a hiking area, two new base lodges for retail and food and increased snow-making ability with a reservoir that can hold up to 30 million gallons of water.

Guests who visit the resort can use a 5,000 square-foot patio, a hospitality yurt and two other yurts for youth ski school and beginner programs.

Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort is about 30 miles from downtown Las Vegas.

One-day lift tickets for adults go for $50 on weekdays and $60 on weekends.

Multi-day lift tickets are $200 for two days, $150 for three days and $250 for five days. Seven season pass options that can be purchases online at www.skilasvegas.com.
