The Plaza in downtown Las Vegas today announced it will undertake a major renovation of its rooftop pool starting next week.

The hotel-casino said its “extensive, multi-million dollar” pool renovation will begin Jan. 4, and the space should reopen sometime in the summer. The project will include new cabanas, daybeds, eating spaces, bars and greenery, as well as physical improvements to the hotel’s 70,000 square-foot pool deck.

“The new rooftop pool will offer guests a modern poolside destination downtown that still reflects the Plaza’s classic Vegas ambiance,” Jonathan Jossel, the Plaza’s chief executive, said in a statement. “In addition to comfortable and fun new poolside amenities, we will offer guests live entertainment, gaming and a full menu of food and beverage options.”

In an interview, Jossel said he did not have a final budget figure for the project but that it would cost millions of dollars.

The hotel said it will reveal more details about specific amenities at the renovated pool when it reopens.
