Health and welfare brokerage and consulting firm Insurcorp has merged with Brown & Brown Insurance, a national company with local offices and operations. Insurcorp said the merger will give its clients access to additional resources in compliance, underwriting and technology, as well as commercial property, casualty and liability products, coverage and services. Insurcorp has traditionally been focused on large industries in Nevada, including gaming, restaurant and fine dining and automotive retail. Georges Maalouf, a benefits industry veteran who founded Maalouf Benefit Resources in 2002 and merged with Insurcorp last fall, has been named executive vice president of the company’s employee benefits division.

The Nevada Minority Supplier Development Council recognized accomplishments of the state’s minority business enterprises and major corporations at its recent Excellence Awards. Clark County was named “Corporation of the Decade” and cited for its leadership and support of minority businesses. NEDCO Supply/Pro-Line Video, a wholesale supplier of electrical and electronics equipment owned by Marshall Hunt, was named “Minority Business of the Decade.” Other 2012 awards and winners: Corporation – NV Energy; minority business – JS Products, Inc.; new minority business – Che Marie Corporation, dba Jadon Foods; professional service business – Wedlow Maintenance; contractor – Sedillo Landscaping; buyer/purchasing agent – Adleen Stidhun, Clark County; community relations specialist – Kyna Krause, NV Energy; and supplier diversity program – NV Energy. Anna Siefert, a member of the Department of Business and Industry’s Commission on Minority Affairs, was recognized as advocate of the year, and Mike Toney, the president of Black Platinum Construction, was named volunteer of the year.
