One fewer weekend day in September than last September translated into a 1.6 percent decline in visitation for the month, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Thursday.

The organization that markets the Las Vegas destination reported 3.3 million visitors in September compared with 3.35 million a year earlier.

In the nine months of 2013, visitor volume has been up five months but down four. The September decline ended two straight months of increases.

Room occupancy was off slightly, but the average daily room rate was up 1.1 percent to $113.75 for the month. Strip room rates went up 1.5 percent to $123.72 while downtown Las Vegas room rates climbed 7.4 percent to $72.88.

Citywide room occupancy was off 1.2 percentage points to 85.6 percent for the month.

Convention attendance was up 1.1 percent to 368,593 with the number of conventions and meetings up 6.1 percent to 1,999 for the month.

With one quarter remaining in the year, visitation for 2013 is down 0.2 percent to 30 million.
