Masters of Hawaiian Music

"Returning to The Smith Center by high demand, four-time Grammy-winning slack-key guitarist George Kahumoku Jr. performs beloved traditional Hawaiian melodies alongside award-winning multi-instrumentalist Nathan Aweau and acclaimed singer-guitarist Kawika Kahiapo. Hailed as three of Hawaii’s leading artists today, these unrivaled masters will share a rich variety of Hawaii’s unique folk styles that originated in the early 19th-century Hawaiian paniolo (cowboy) culture.

Known as Hawaii’s Renaissance Man, Grammy Winner Kahumoku has received widespread renown for his versatile skills as a vocalist, songwriter, storyteller and slack-key guitarist who remains dedicated to celebrating and sharing Hawaiian culture and music.

Contemporary Hawaiian music’s most critically acclaimed male vocalist and bass virtuoso, Aweau has captivated audiences worldwide. His multiple albums have earned him accolades such as Male Vocalist of the Year and Contemporary Hawaiian Album of the Year.

Kahiapo has contributed to over 30 recording projects and performed with numerous artists on stage and as a studio musician. He is a member of the band Kaukahi, which received three Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, Hawaii’s premier music awards. He is also featured on Kahumoku’s album “Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, Volume 2” that earned a Grammy for Best Hawaiian Music Album.

Audiences will delight in experiencing authentic Hawaiian music by the most talented artists of the genre."
