With support from Citibank, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts is expanding its “Southern Nevada Wolf Trap Early Learning Through the Arts” program to serve teachers and students in the Clark County School District. In partnership with the Wolf Trap Institute in Virginia, the local program aims to enhance preschool teachers’ knowledge, skill and confidence in using arts-based teaching strategies.
The Penta Building Group was selected as the general contractor for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters International Training Center project. The two-story, 222,000-square-foot center will include classrooms, meeting rooms and an expanded dining facility, as well as a two-story shop area with a retractable roof, two overhead gantry cranes and a large training facility for carpenter tradesmen.
Wynn Las Vegas and Encore were honored as top locations to host events by Meeting and Conventions magazine, earning a spot on its Gold list. The Wynn also earned a Gold Platter award for catering excellence and creativity. For the seventh consecutive year, the publication bestowed the Gold Key Awards on the resorts, placing them among the world’s finest meetings places. This year, 146 domestic and 17 international hotels received the honor.

The 9Group was honored as having the best company website by the Las Vegas Interactive Marketing Association during its seventh annual Las Vegas Digital Media Awards. The award was limited to companies that launched or redesigned their websites within the past 18 months.
The Nevada Association of Realtors received a national award for its 2012 “Face of Foreclosure” report that highlighted issues with and suggested solutions for the state’s foreclosure crisis. The report earned a silver award in the educational programs category in the Association Trends’ 2012 All-Media Contest.
United Way of Southern Nevada has been awarded a Roadmaps to Health Community Grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to advance policies and system changes to improve early childhood education. The grant supports work in defining policy priorities, engaging the public and key stakeholders, and educating policy makers. The foundation has awarded Roadmaps to Health Community Grants to 18 coalitions across the United States to improve the health of those communities.
