Las Vegas gets taste of Australia, Asia and Texas; Golden Nugget shines anew

This week, two new restaurants celebrate their first Nevada locations and an upscale hotel opens a new restaurant concept for those with exotic tastes.

Plus, a local fixture gets a snazzy upgrade and a familiar name closes its doors.

    • Ribs & Burgers

Ribs & Burgers is celebrating its first U.S. store by giving away $41,600 worth of burgers to the first 100 visitors Tuesday at their Downtown Summerlin location, according to a press release. Each of those visitors will receive one free burger each week for a year.

The Australian restaurant chain, which announced plans to open in January, is known for eight-hour, slow-cooked ribs and free-range chicken breasts.

The casual-dining barbecue joint will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

    • PDQ

PDQ went from west Texas to North Las Vegas when the company's first Nevada location opened Sunday at 3737 W. Craig Road.

Best known for their fresh and affordable chicken tenders, they also will serve salads and sandwiches at the fast casual chain.

There are also plans to open a store near Sahara Avenue and Rancho Drive.

    • Silk Road Noodle Bar

A new Asian restaurant is now open at Westgate Las Vegas.

Silk Road Noodle Bar will feature menu items in several different Asian cooking styles, including Japanese ramen noodles, Chinese rice noodles and Vietnamese Pho, Chef Alex Irlandes said.

This casual dining, 156-seat eatery, which overlooks the gardens in Westgate’s Benihana Village, will be open from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.

    • Golden Nugget Las Vegas Convention Center

The Golden Nugget Convention Center unveiled its $6.5 million facelift, tummy tuck, nose job and whatever else that kind of dough buys last week.

It has been transformed into a “modern business space,” according to a media release. That includes 13 breakout rooms and a variety of conference spaces.

    • Mario Lopez, with wife Courtney Mazza Lopez, hosts the grand opening of Sugar Factory American Brasserie on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, in Town Square.

      The Sugar Factory

The Sugar Factory closed its first off-strip location at Town Square in late February, according to a spokesperson for the shopping plaza.

The 7,000-square-foot store was previously the Meatball Spot, which closed in fall 2013, and re-opened in November of that same year as the Sugar Factory. There are still two locations open at the MGM and Planet Hollywood.
