Special Olympics Nevada

Special Olympics Nevada provides athletic opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, instilling the confidence they need to succeed in life.

The goal of Special Olympics Nevada is to continue enriching the lives of our athletes, while reaching out to new individuals who could benefit from participating in Special Olympics. Special Olympics provides more than sports training; it builds confidence and self-esteem in our athletes that carries over into their every day lives, helping to make them contributing members in their communities.

We fundraise year-round throughout Nevada. Our premier event is the Special Olympics Nevada Polar Plunge which is held each winter in Las Vegas, South Lake Tahoe and Elko. Individuals, corporations, schools, and law enforcement teams fund raise for our athletes and then jump into a cold body of water (typically in costume). We also host more than 25 sport competitions each year and encourage companies to support us through sponsorship and volunteerism.

Our athletes are why we exist and volunteers are how we exist. Special Olympics Nevada could not exist without the time, energy and dedication of our 3,700 volunteers. There is a wide range of volunteer opportunities. To become a volunteer coach or day-of volunteer, visit www.VolunteerforSONV.org. To bring your company out to volunteer at a sport competition, contact [email protected].

Individuals can support Special Olympics Nevada through a variety of fundraisers that take place throughout the year. Direct donations via our website can also be made year-round at www.SONV.org. For every $1 donated, 92 cents goes back into programs for our athletes. Every $125 donated gives an athlete the opportunity to play a sport for a season.
