The wordless dance troupe Jabbawockeez is set to have some similarly inspired company at Monte Carlo Theater.
Blue Man Group, who helped usher in an era of multimedia entertainment on the Strip when it opened at Luxor in 2000, is moving from The Venetian to Monte Carlo in the fall of 2012.
Founders Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton opened the unique stage show, featuring the now-familiar blue-painted trio performing such acts as slamming PVC pipe with drumsticks to the music of a live rock band and throwing marshmallows into one another's mouths from across the stage, more than a decade ago.
The show enjoyed strong response during its five-year run at Luxor, then moved on to The Venetian as the Luxor replaced the group with one-off performances by such stars as Earth Wind & Fire and Olivia Newton-John. Later, it was the arrival of "Hairspray," and, finally, the Cirque du Soleil-Criss Angel partnership, "Believe."
BMG replaces Frank Caliendo, who ends his run at the hotel in April. Lance Burton, a hotel headliner since his show opened with the property in 1996, left the stage in September 2010. Jabbawockeez will represent the Monte Carlo's sole headlining act until Blue Man Group arrives.
