Original Pancake House locations close at Station Casinos

Two Station Casinos properties recently changed their breakfast menus: The Original Pancake House at Green Valley Ranch and Aliante Station closed.

Both restaurants flipped their last flapjack at the end of October.

“We made a mutual decision with the owners to end our business relationship at both locations,” Station spokeswoman Lori Nelson said.

Kim and Stephan Freudenberger owned the franchises. Kim Freudenberger said the leases were up.

Known for its large portions and signature apple and Dutch Baby pancakes, the Original Pancake House expanded to the Green Valley Ranch in 2001 and the Aliante in 2008. In both cases, the locations opened with the casinos they called home.

Two Original Pancake Houses remain in Las Vegas: one at Charleston and Decatur, the other at Fort Apache and Flamingo.

No restaurant is in the works to replace the pancake house at Aliante. Nelson said the casino already has an extensive restaurant selection, including several breakfast options.

At Green Valley Ranch, Grand Cafe will replace the Original Pancake House. Grand Cafe is owned by Station Casinos and has locations at several of the company’s properties.

“We are going to be putting our Grand Cafe back because of the overwhelming success of them in our other locations,” Nelson said.

Grand Cafe previously had a location at Green Valley Ranch, but it closed about three years ago. The new version is set to open in mid December.

The Original Pancake House started in 1953 in Portland, Ore., and the Freudenbergers brought the franchise to Las Vegas in 1995. The chain has more than 100 locations across the country.

Ya gotta love it. If Station Cafes were so successful in their other locations, why did they bring in the Pancake House in the first place?

  2. Jaquekeno - you must not have lived here very long, or just don't pay attention. Regardless, I'm not sure what the point of your comment is. The previous Cafe options at the Station Casino's may have been lacking, but the revamped Grand Cafe makes good food, has good prices, and has gained in popularity over the past couple of years. If the Original Pancake House doesn't want to renew their lease, why wouldn't stations keep the revenue in-house?

  3. Who is going to go to a national chain restaurant at a casino ??? Casino cafes have always been cheap and good in vegas.

  4. The Grand Cafe is great! A mutual decision is just that, but it works out better for the gamblers. The casino can control the prices, service and quality of food. If the Original Pancake House was terrible, it just gives Stations a bad rep and they have no control over it. It's all about control.

  5. The food at the Grand Cafe in Green Valley Ranch always had good food and the specials were great. Staff was excellent. I am looking forward to their reopening.
