The Nevada Attorney General's office announced Thursday that a local notary public has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor related to the robo-signing scam that was revealed on Wednesday.
Tracy Lawrence, 43, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of notarizing the signature of an individual not in her presence. Lawrence, who is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 28, faces up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
“The case against Lawrence was based on an investigation by the Attorney General’s mortgage fraud task force, which revealed that between 2005 and 2008, tens of thousands of fraudulent documents were filed with the Clark County Recorder’s office," Chief Deputy Attorney General John Kelleher said in a statement.
On Wednesday, the Attorney General's office said two title officers, California residents Gary Trafford and Gerri Sheppard, were charged in the scheme in which prosecutors said false foreclosure documents were filed with the Clark County Recorder.
