Popular tapas restaurant Firefly to add Henderson location

Chef and owner of Firefly Tapas Bar, John Simmons, is photographed outside his location near Summerlin on Oct. 21, 2010. The original Firefly is on Paradise Road, and a third location will be in Henderson.

Local restaurant Firefly will be bringing its signature mix of tapas and sangria to Henderson this spring with the opening of a location near Anthem.

Located in the former home of the now defunct steakhouse Rare on South Eastern Avenue, the new Firefly will occupy a second-floor space with an outdoor balcony overlooking the valley, chef and owner John Simmons said.

The location is currently being remodeled and should open in March.

"The spot is really cool," he said. "I've always wanted to get out to Henderson. A lot of our guests are from there, and I think if we had a place out there they would go more often."

Simmons, who also owns Firefly restaurants on Paradise Road near the Strip and on Sahara Avenue in the western valley, said he initially explored opening another branch in Henderson at a spot near Serene and Eastern avenues several years ago, but that deal fell through.

Although the menu will be similar to his other locations, Simmons said he's planning to "shake things up a bit," with some new dishes and the introduction of brunch on the weekends.

"It's still going to be based around tapas, sangria and good, affordable fun," he said.

  1. I love their food, but the noise level in their Paradise location is deafening. I hope the new restaurant installs friendlier acoustics.
