Openings and closings: Barbecue and burgers out, Asian fusion in

The food and beverage industry is a tough business. Case in point: Two Southern Nevada eateries recently closed their doors and another will follow in a matter of days.

Still, other entrepreneurs are jumping into the fray with new enterprises, hoping those will be more successful. A self-taught chef recently opened a restaurant in the M Resort, while a popular tavern is adding more locations.

      Jayde Fuzion

      Jayde Fuzion opened Dec. 17 at the M Resort, taking over a space vacated by Marinelli’s. Seonkyoung Longest, who won the Food Network's reality TV show, “Restaurant Express,” is executive chef.

      The eatery serves Asian-fusion cuisine, including Longest's take on Korean street tacos, as well as dim sum and sushi. It has 150 seats, an 11-person sushi bar and a private dining room.

      Jayde Fuzion is open 5 to 10 p.m. daily. Reservations are recommended.

    • The PT's at 9050 W. Post Road in Las Vegas.

      PT’s Gold Tavern

      PT’s opened another Southern Nevada location Dec. 12 at 9050 W. Post Road, Las Vegas. The tavern took over a space previously occupied by O’Aces.

      Henderson is will get a new PT’s soon, too. The former Tomfoolery, 1331 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is being converted into a PT’s, set to open Friday.

      It will be the chain's 42nd location in Southern Nevada.

      All of the bars are open 24 hours.

    • Top Notch Barbeque

      Top Notch Barbeque in Doc Holliday’s Saloon at Eastern and East Serene avenues in Henderson closed this month after a yearlong stint due to poor business.

      Owner Jimmy Cole announced the closing Dec. 20 on the eatery’s Facebook page.

      Cole, who started Top Notch as a food truck, said he hasn’t ruled out opening another location.

      Top Notch is still available to cater events.

    • Grind Burger Bar

      Grind Burger Bar, 360 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, will close Dec. 31 after more than four years in business. The restaurant is known for its build-your-own burgers.

      There is no word yet on what will replace it.

      “We don’t know the future, but we hope that one day down the road we will be able to reopen in another location,” owners said in an email announcing the closure.

      The restaurant will remain open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Dec. 31.

    • Too soon: Bradley Ogden's famous burger is gone, again.

      Hops & Harvest

      Bradley Ogden’s Hops & Harvest in Tivoli Village closed Dec. 14 after a seven-month run.

      There is no word on why the 180-seat restaurant closed or what will replace it.

    • Hour Passion rendering

      Hour Passion

      The Swatch Group is set to open another watch store in Las Vegas. Hour Passion, a 1,500-square-foot boutique, is scheduled to open at Aria before the end of the year.

      The store will sell traditional brands, such as Calvin Klein, Flik-Flak and Swatch, rather than the higher-end brands at Tourbillon, the company's store at Crystals.

      Hour Passion is the Swatch Group's second U.S. location. The first is in New York.

      Hour Passion will be open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
