The longtime public face of Cox Communications will leave the company later this year.
Public Affairs Vice President Steve Schorr, who has been with the company and its predecessors for 25 years, said today he’s “looking forward to my next adventure in this community.”
Schorr did not give a reason for his departure, but said he was ready for a change and didn’t have any disputes with Cox management. There was no date given for when he will leave Cox; a release said he would be gone by the end of the year.
“Things change over time,” he said. “I know I’m not the same person I was 25 years ago. People change. Companies change. I’m looking forward to the new chapter in my life.”
“Steve’s mark on our company and community is indelible,” Michael Bolognini, market vice president for Cox Communications, said in a release announcing Schorr’s departure. “Few individuals have maintained such a level of commitment to so many causes and organizations. Our community and our company are without doubt better places because of his tireless devotion.”
Bolognini, who oversees all operations at Cox in Las Vegas, expanded his public and government affairs team earlier this year. Kami Dempsey will oversee community, local and state government issues in Nevada, Mark DiNuzio will handle regulatory issues, Stephanie Stallworth will oversee external and internal communications and Juergen Barbusca will handle media relations.
Schorr has been recognized, by local, state and national organizations for his contributions to civic organizations, youth groups and public service agencies.
He has received two Lifetime Achievement Awards: one from the U.S. Justice Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the other from Señoras of Excellence, Señores of Distinction. In 2007, the Clark County School District named one of its elementary schools for him.
