Every city has shoe stores, gas stations and supermarkets.

But what about shops dedicated to showgirl feathers, gamblers' books and stripper poles? Those are far more rare.

Not in Las Vegas.

Explore the city’s plazas and strip malls and you’ll find stores that cater uniquely to a Las Vegas crowd. Selling stripper stages and card decks, these are some of the most Las Vegas-centric shops around:

    • Rainbow Feather Company

      1036 S. Main St.

      Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday

      This is a showgirl's paradise.

Rainbow Feather Company supplies multicolored feathers for burlesque dancers, go-go girls and Cirque du Soleil performers. They fashion headdresses, fans, wings and boas.

All the work is done in-house. A small staff dyes the goods on-site. Products are made from turkey, chicken, goose, duck, pheasant, ostrich and peacock feathers.

Founded in 1964 in Burbank, Calif., Rainbow Feather Company quickly became the go-to shop for go-go dancers and locals looking for Gatsby-esque flair. The company expanded to Las Vegas in 1996.

Prices run the gamut. A peacock feather fan, for example, costs $20 while a set of large feather wings runs $155.

    • Las Vegas Stripper Poles Inc.

4305 Dean Martin Drive, Suite 110

      Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday

This Las Vegas gem rents and sells stripper poles and stages. Clientele include fitness gurus, housewives and professional dancers. Products include glow poles, spinning poles, brass poles, stainless steel poles, chrome poles, removable poles and poles with stages attached to them.

The company's poles have been used in aerobic striptease classes all over the country. Las Vegas Stripper Poles, Inc. also rents and delivers poles to nightclubs, bars, ballrooms, even hotel rooms.

Prices range from $150 for an 11-foot stationary pole to $700 for a pole-stage combo. A one-day pole rental runs $360; additional days cost $150.

    • Serge's Wigs

      4515 W. Sahara Ave.

      Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday

A fixture of the Las Vegas theater community for 35 years, Serge's Wigs is a costumer's dream.

Nestled in a commercial park on West Sahara Avenue, the shop sells hairpieces for men, women and children; shampoos and sprays; scarves and turbans.

Wigs are available with human or synthetic hair. Staffers also commission work to cut, fit, style or wash hairpieces.

    • Gambler's Book Club

      5473 S. Eastern Avenue

      Hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday

The Gambler’s Book Club, which proclaims itself the largest gambling bookseller in the world, carries thousands of books, strategy guides and DVDs aimed at helping gamblers pad their game.

Most are on subjects you’d expect: sports betting, horse racing, blackjack, craps, poker and chess. A few titles, however, are a little more surprising: backgammon and sudoku, for instance.

Fittingly, the shop carries true crime and mafia books and includes a section for playing cards, dice and chips.

The Gambler's Book Club opened in 1964.

    • Gambler's General Store

      800 S. Main St.

      Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday

The Gambler's General Store isn't just for poker pros and casino operators. Anyone can shop there.

Stocked with felt card tables, roulette wheels and slot machines, it offers a large selection of gambling accessories, including cards, dice and poker chips.

The shop also lets customers bring a bit of the casino home with personalized products. Businesspeople bored with conventional business cards, for example, can order a fun alternative (favored by Oscar and Carolyn Goodman, the former and current mayor, respectively): poker chip cards labeled with their contact information.
