Seafood in the desert sounds like an oxymoron, but Las Vegans soon will have even more options when in the mood for fish.

Although Henderson said goodbye to California Crab, Hot N Juicy Crawfish plans to debut and the Crab Corner recently added a second location.

For dessert, pick up a pastry at a new bakery in Spring Valley or feast on a treat crafted by Buddy Valastro, the “Cake Boss.”

Here's a look at some of the businesses opening and closing in the valley:

    • Buzz n Brushes

      Buzz’N Brushes

Buzz’N Brushes aims to teach people how to paint masterpieces. The art studio opened in late September and may be the first business of its type to be housed in a casino.

It took over a space in the Orleans formerly occupied by Big Al's Comedy Club.

Art classes are offered 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday, with open paint sessions from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

    • Buddy Valastro, Lisa Valastro, Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla at Buddy V’s Ristorante in Palazzo on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.

      Buddy V’s Ristorante

Buddy Valastro, the "Cake Boss," is expanding to savory fare. The TV star chef opened his first restaurant Oct. 7 inside the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian with partners Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla.

The restaurant features Italian-American dishes, along with sweet treats created by Valastro.

      Buddy V’s is open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

    • Peridot Sweets Cakes & Confections

      Peridot Sweets

Peridot Sweets, a boutique bakery that specializes in custom cakes, party favors and dessert displays, opened its first retail outlet in August in southwest Las Vegas.

The bakery makes its own flavorings and ingredients and features treats such as maple bacon cupcakes and French macaroons.

It is inside Rainbow Sunset Pavilion, 6475 S. Rainbow Blvd., and is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.

    • Bon Breads

      Bon Breads

Bon Breads at Town Square closed Sept. 30. There is no word yet on what will replace it.

The brand still is sold at Whole Foods Markets.

    • Hot n Juicy Crawfish

Hot N Juicy (formerly California Crab)

California Crab closed in September but soon will be replaced by Hot N Juicy Crawfish.

It will be the chain's third valley location. Two are in Chinatown.

California Crab opened in November 2012.

    • Crab Corner

      Crab Corner

Crab Corner opened its second location Sept. 21 at Rainbow Sunset Pavilion. The original is at 4161 S. Eastern Ave.

Both feature a bevy of seafood options, with specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
