Valley Health System is closing its maternity-related services at Valley Hospital, moving all of its resources to three other affiliated hospitals in Southern Nevada.

The hospital today announced that on April 17, maternity services would be consolidated to Centennial Hills, Spring Valley and Summerlin hospitals. Nursing units of labor and delivery, postpartum, nursery and neonatal intensive care will be part of the transition.

Representatives of the hospital did not disclose the reason for moving the department out of Valley, which opened in 1972. A spokeswoman for the hospital said there would be no further comment beyond a brief statement issued today.

“We are currently enhancing maternity services at Centennial Hills Hospital with the addition of a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and two mobile water birth units,” the health system said in the statement. “We are also researching the services that will be available at our sixth facility, which will be located at U.S. 95 and Galleria Drive in Henderson.”

Valley will continue to offer women’s health procedures including breast, gynecology and gynecology oncology surgeries.

According to the Valley Hospital website, the maternity unit includes a maternal triage unit for evaluation and treatment, an antepartum unit to monitor pregnancy-related complications, 10 labor-delivery-recovery rooms, two operating rooms near the birthing rooms, nurseries for normal, intermediate and high-risk infants and a dedicated infant-transport ambulance for transfers between hospitals.
