Reality TV shows can’t always save struggling businesses with big-ticket makeovers despite what the credits tell you.
Case in point: A bar recently featured on Spike TV closed despite professional intervention.
Elsewhere in the valley, a Chicago favorite is debuting and an upscale burger joint is saying goodbye. Meanwhile, business is brewing in Neonopolis.

Garnet Lounge
Garnet Lounge, previously known as Alibi Casino, closed New Year’s Eve.
The bar, at 1690 N. Decatur Blvd., announced the news on its Facebook page.
“With more regret than words can express, we have to close our business and accept the defeat brought to us by our economy and the changes in our industry,” owners wrote.
The closure comes less than two months after the bar appeared on an episode of Spike TV's “Bar Rescue” series. In the show, industry experts gave the spot a new name and more upscale decor.

LBS: A Burger Joint
LBS: A Burger Joint will close Feb. 3. The casual restaurant inside Red Rock Resort will shut down after the Super Bowl.
There’s no word yet on what will replace it.
Block 16, the hospitality group behind the eatery, still will operate Pink’s Hot Dogs in Red Rock and plans to open two new restaurants later this year: Flour and Barley at the Linq and the Blind Pig in Panorama Towers.

International Eatery
International Eatery opened New Year's Eve at Neonopolis.
The food court-style space includes DJ's Taco Bar, China Max and Dino's Little Italy.
The downtown dining spot occupies the space left vacant by the closure of Luna Rossa Ristorante.

Al’s Beef
Chicago-based Al's Beef is coming to Las Vegas and is slated to open Jan. 20.
It will be at 6840 W. Sahara Ave.
Al's "Award Winning Italian Beef" sandwich has been widely praised and was featured on the Travel Channel. In 2008, Esquire named it one of the best sandwiches in America.
The beef joint will take over a restaurant deserted by Bollywood Grill. It will be the third Al’s on the West Coast and the first in Nevada.

Banger Brewing
The only brewery on Fremont Street, Banger Brewing opened late last month in Neonopolis.
At 450 Fremont St., Suite 135, the 3,000-square-foot restaurant makes beer the highlight of the customer experience. The eatery also sells popcorn but doesn't have a menu or other food options.
Banger Brewing is open from 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. It will start offering public tours in February.
