Freeway bridge, renovated grocery store open in northwest valley; downtown bar closes

The valley welcomes two restaurants, and a grocery store opens after getting a makeover.

Also, a new bridge means an easier mode of travel for some residents.

    • Smith’s Food & Drug Store | 7130 N. Durango Drive, Las Vegas

      The North Durango Drive location celebrated its $3.7 million remodeling last week.

      The 65,000-square-foot store features a 1,000-square-foot Starbucks as well as a Murray’s Cheese Store and a sushi/salad bar. Customers will enjoy the convenience of more self-checkout stations in addition to merchandise display tables and warm wall colors.

    • Braddah’s Island Style | 7315 W. Warm Springs Road, Las Vegas

      The fast-casual restaurant opened its fourth location July 16.

      “So many customers and guests have been asking us to open a Braddah’s in this area,” Christopher Campbell, founder and president of Braddah’s Island Style, said.

      The Hawaiian-inspired restaurant features menu items such as Huli Chicken and Pulehu Steak and garnered Best of Las Vegas awards.

      Open: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

    • Residents in the northwest part of the valley now have a new way to travel through their community with the opening of a bridge July 14, which carries Fort Apache Road over the 215 Beltway.

      Residents in the northwest part of the valley now have a new way to travel through their community with the opening of a freeway bridge July 14, which carries Fort Apache Road over the 215 Beltway.

      “This bridge gives the thousands of residents who live nearby an easier and more efficient way to get to school, work, shopping, restaurants, the doctor’s office and almost anywhere else they need to go,” County Commission Vice Chairman Larry Brown said.

      The bridge completes a nearly seven-mile stretch of Fort Apache between Cheyenne Avenue and Grand Teton Drive.

    • Larsen’s Grill | 1300 W. Sunset Rd, Henderson

      The Galleria at Sunset mall celebrated the eatery’s opening this month, which boasts prime ribs and seafood. Located in The Plaza of the mall, guests can enjoy dishes such as Larsen’s Stuffed Chicken and Cedar Plank Salmon for lunch or a variety of sushi rolls and Filet Mignon for dinner.

      Open: Daily, 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.; dinner 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.; happy hour 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

      The Downtown bar, popular for its video game arcade theme, closed its doors this month after entertaining guests for four years. According to owner Christopher LaPorte, the bar's management fell behind on rent and the property's landlord filed for eviction in late June. Laporte said the closure is temporary and he hopes to reopen soon.
