New health club opens in Henderson; NLV welcomes Wingstop

Anchor Bar, at the Grand Canal Shoppes food court, closed its doors this month, but owners have said they plan to find a new location in town to continue serving its popular buffalo wings.

Summer is just a few months away, which means plenty of us will be scrambling to get that perfect beach body. Luckily, a new health club location has arrived to help beach lovers get into tip-top shape.

Meanwhile, an eatery best known for its chicken wings will open a new location this weekend. At the Grand Canal Shoppes, however, a bar that’s been a hit among customers for its buffalo wings has shuttered.

Elsewhere, the Strip will welcome a Japanese noodle bar and a Chinese fast food restaurant, where Mayor Carolyn Goodman will savor its organic food choices.

At Treasure Island, a popular Hawaiian-themed bar that’s been in business for almost 15 years has shuttered, putting an end to its popular tropical festivities.

    • Planet Fitness

Henderson welcomed the largest Planet Fitness in the state this month.

The new health club location is located at 260 E. Lake Mead Parkway, near Boulder Highway. It will be open 24 hours a day.

Gym goers will be able to choose from 120 cardio and strength machines, while also enjoying entertainment from dozens of flat screen televisions.

New members can join for $1 down, then pay $10 every month. Becoming a PF Black Card member for $19.99 a month is also an option. It includes access to over 1,000 Planet Fitness locations nationwide and unlimited use of HydroMassage beds, massage chairs and tanning.

    • Wingstop

There’s one more Wingstop in town.

The chicken wing eatery has opened a location in North Las Vegas at 5725 Losee Road, near Ann Road.

Featuring 11 flavors of boneless wings, the chain has grown to 845 franchises since its founding in 1994.

Guests who stop by the new location Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. can enjoy five free wings.

    • Anchor Bar

Anchor Bar at the Grand Canal Shoppes has shuttered.

Owners of the restaurant say they will find a new location so they can continue to serve its famous wings to Las Vegans.

The eatery opened last June and became an instant hit not only for its wings but for menu items like its beef on weck sandwich.

    • Momofuku

Las Vegas will soon be home to Momofuku’s first West Coast location.

The Cosmopolitan is set to open a Momofuku restaurant, which currently has venues in New York City, Toronto and Washington, D.C

Momofuku is part of a group of restaurants owned by chef David Chang. Collectively, all 13 restaurants have gained Chang two Michelin stars that he has retained for eight years.

    • ChiAm

Ever savor Chinese organic food? Well, you can now.

ChiAm, a fast casual Chinese and dim sum restaurant, has opened its second location in Las Vegas at 6300 W. Charleston Blvd.

The joint offers a menu filled with organic food choices and traditional dim sum dishes.

At its grand opening Wednesday, Mayor Carolyn Goodman savored platters from the menu and was entertained by Chinese Lion Dancers.

    • Kahunaville

After almost 15 years of festivities, Kahunaville at the T.I. served its last frozen margarita this month.

Treasure Island is set to demolish the bar, which will cost about $200,000. There has been no announcement on what will replace the 17,000-square-foot space.

The Hawaiian-themed bar opened in 2001 when the resort was still named Treasure Island. It had access to the pool area and often hosted theatrical shows and musical productions, including one featuring Peter Hernandez, Bruno Mars’ father.
