Ellis Island new owners of Mt. Charleston Lodge

Ellis Island purchased the Mt. Charleston Lodge in early April and plans to spruce up the scenically-located facility, including implementing one of the Ellis Island staples — an advanced draft beer system.

Ellis Island has been interested in acquiring the lodge for some time, said Christina Ellis, the property’s director of marketing and daughter of owner, Gary Ellis.

“As a native Las Vegan, my father grew up going to Mt. Charleston and always had very fond memories of going up to the lodge,” Ellis said. “We believe it to be one of the jewels of this town.”

She said there are no immediate plans to change the name of the lodge, which sits at 7,717 elevation. Also, longtime manager Thomas Schneekloth and his team were retained after the sale, which was finalized April 5. Ellis didn’t indicate the transaction price.

The lodge features a restaurant and bar, can sit up to 200 people at capacity. Expect small changes — bathroom renovations, new furniture and eventually a remodel of the patio area.

Ellis Island plans to promote the property year-round, especially during the summer months, where the temperature on the mountain is much milder than the 100-plus degree days in the Las Vegas Valley.
