Passenger tally up for 11th straight month at Vegas airport

Officials say that for the 11th straight month, the number of passengers using McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas was up in August compared with the same month a year ago.

The Clark County Department of Aviation on Wednesday reported 4.4 million arriving and departing travelers last month. That's a 3.1% increase from August 2018.

The airport has handled nearly 34.2 passengers this year, keeping it on pace to surpass 50 million for the year for the first time.

McCarran handled a record high 49.7 million passengers in 2018. It's one of the 10 busiest airports in the U.S. based on passenger count.

Southwest Airlines was the busiest carrier at McCarran in August. Spirit overcame Delta in second spot, followed by American and United.
