Virgin Hotels Las Vegas might delay fall opening

Richard Bosworth, President and CEO of JC Hospitality LLC, speaks with the media after closing the doors of the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas permanently Monday Feb. 3, 2020. The property will continue its transformation into Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, which will open November 2020.

The new Virgin Hotels Las Vegas might not open later this year as scheduled because of the pandemic, officials said today.

The doubt is caused by “COVID-19 regulations, market conditions and recent event convention cancellations” in Las Vegas, said Richard Bosworth, president and CEO of JC Hospitality, which owns the Virgin property.

The remodeling of the former Hard Rock Hotel property, on Harmon Avenue just east of the Strip, remains on schedule, Bosworth said. A reopening date should be established by mid-September.

“The operations team is expected to receive the keys to the property in early November,” Bosworth said in a statement. “The ownership group is carefully evaluating the previously announced fall 2020 opening date.”

The resort will feature about 1,500 suites in three different towers.

Its 60,000-square-foot Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment casino, which will be called Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, will be the first tribal casino in Las Vegas.

Along with convention and meeting space, the resort will also have an indoor live music and entertainment area that will have capacity for about 4,500.
