Dos Caminos Mexican restaurant closes at the Palazzo

Dos Caminos, the Palazzo’s high-end Mexican restaurant, abruptly closed its doors Monday.

The eatery, which opened in February 2008, has no plans to reopen at the resort.

The closure comes on the heels of a bitter battle between operator Two Roads Las Vegas and its landlord. In 2010, the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which owns the Palazzo and is owned by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, sued Two Roads for nonpayment of rent. Two Roads executives claim the Sands Corp. reneged on the long-term rental agreement the parties negotiated. A Sands spokesman denied the charge but declined further comment.

The Sands eventually won the right to evict Dos Caminos, and a state Supreme Court judge upheld the eviction after Two Roads appealed. Officials at the restaurant company, headquartered in New York, called the decision “preordained” and accused local judges of bias toward Adelson.

Dos Caminos Las Vegas was owned by East Coast restaurateur Stephen Hanson and his company B.R. Guest. It was the Mexican restaurant’s fourth outpost and the first outside New York City.

  1. If the rental agreement was in writing how could he renege on it? Let me guess it was a verbal agreement? Perhaps they weren't meeting their numbers and Sheldon is notoriously a numbers guy. Numbers don't lie, but people do.

  3. There are plenty oh Mexican restaurants. How about a High End KOSHER restaurant at the Palazzo?

  4. When the Venetian used to comp my room I would eat there and at Carnavinos every visit. Dos Caminos had some great appetizers, really good food, great drinks and a nice atmosphere. I missed the place but I eat where my bed gets comp'd. I thought it was much better than most of the Mexican restaurants I had ever been to. By far.
