Among the 23 recipients of Google for Startups’ Black Founders Fund is Las Vegas-based Pills2Me, a medication delivery app. Founded in 2020 by Leslie Asanga, a graduate of Roseman University College of Pharmacy and the Yale School of Public Health, the app helps give patients easy access to medications, including on-demand prescription delivery from any pharmacy. The Black Founders Fund offers recipients $150,000 in equity-free cash to help fuel their business as well as sales and fundraising training and technical support, up to $100,000 in Google Cloud credits, and mental health coaching from a team of therapists.
The Vegas Golden Knights Foundation announced the recipients of its 2023 grants, which will provide $233,000 to 17 organizations in the Las Vegas Valley. In addition, the Henderson Silver Knights Foundation has awarded grants for the first time to three organizations, totaling $25,000. The recipients of the VGK Foundation grants include Assistance League of Las Vegas, Candlelighters, Catholic Charities, CORE, Families for Effective Autism Treatment, Girls on the Run, HELP of Southern Nevada, Henry’s Place, Hope for the City, Kline Veterans Fund, Nevada Homeless Alliance, Operation Homefront, Opportunity Village, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas, USO, Vegas Disabled Sports and YMCA of Southern Nevada. The HSK Foundation grants were awarded to: 100 Black Men, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada.
Southern Nevada Senior Law Program announces a pledge by business and community leader Travis Brady of $25,000 over the next five years, becoming the second Senior Advocates Sustaining Supporter for its Senior Advocates Pro Bono Program. The program expands the capacity of SLP to meet the needs of vulnerable seniors. Attorneys who donate their legal time become SLP Senior Advocates, earn CLEs, and increase SLP’s capacity to serve vulnerable seniors.
Jewish Nevada announced the promotions of Lizzie Fuchs, Andrew Spivak and Katrina Huddleston. Fuchs was promoted to director of outreach and engagement; Spivak is the new director of donor experience; and Huddleston was promoted to director of women’s philanthropy and community outreach.
Elizabeth Shipman was promoted to senior director of organ services and Sara Levinson to vice president of people, culture and development at Nevada Donor Network. Shipman will be responsible for overseeing, directing and managing family, clinical, surgical and hospital services operations for the nonprofit organization. Levinson will be responsible for planning, directing and managing human resources initiatives and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Three Square Food Bank promoted Lisa Segler to chief strategy officer. She is responsible for advancing anti-hunger strategies for the organization to achieve a hunger-free community in Southern Nevada, in addition to overseeing multiple departments that focus on connecting community members to food and other resources. She also works on driving new research to improve the understanding of the barriers and facilitators of food security and leads equity, diversity and inclusion efforts.
GOLO, the health and wellness solutions company with logistics facilities in Las Vegas, recently donated $10,000 each to Three Square Food Bank and Special Olympics Nevada. The funding will support various initiatives, including programs to combat childhood hunger and efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and health care for athletes with special needs.
Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada announced that Michael Crome, senior vice president and chief financial officer for the Las Vegas Raiders and Allegiant Stadium, has been chosen from among more than 100,000 U.S. volunteers as one of 11 recipients of the Junior Achievement USA’s most prestigious award for volunteerism, the Gold Leadership Award, which honors volunteer excellence, presented in recognition of leadership in supporting and expanding JA’s student impact, resources, operational excellence and sustainability.
The Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Leadership Henderson Class of 2023, comprised of 33 designated business professionals and Chamber members from across the Las Vegas valley representing various industries, raised $133,000 in cash and in-kind donations for Positively Arts, which aims to ensure children across the Valley have access to high-quality, high-impact programs that build confidence and self-esteem through artistic expression, peer support and empowerment.
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children and Camp To Belong have come to an agreement to bring the sibling preservation summer camp under the oversight and operations of the Sibling Preservation Program of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. Camp To Belong gives youths in foster care a place to regain a sense of permanency and connection by strengthening their sibling relationships. The motivation behind the weeklong camp is to provide a safe space for siblings separated in foster care to connect with one another and build upon their sibling bonds.
