The Rape Crisis Center, a nonprofit organization founded in 1974 to help victims of sexual violence in Clark County, announced new board members and its 2012-13 executive board. New board members include Director Rhonda Check, small business sales and accounts, UnitedHealthcare; Cynthia Kozmary, a licensed alcohol and drug counselor and marriage and family therapist; and Bobby Hollis, associate general counsel, NV Energy. Bill Thomas, a human resources specialist who has served two terms with the Rape Crisis Center, will continue to serve as president and chairman of the executive board. Joining the executive board are community volunteer Marcy Humm as vice president; Hollis as treasurer; and Tanna Prince, an employee benefits consultant at the Lockton Companies, as secretary.

Malani Kotchka
Malani L. Kotchka, an attorney at Lionel Saywer & Collins, has been selected a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Kotchka is a shareholder in the firm’s litigation department with a practice emphasis on labor and employment law. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1977 and has represented both public-and private-sector employers in all aspects of labor and employment law.
Above the Law has awarded the Tivoli Village offices of Kolesar & Leatham an honorable mention its Lawyerly Lairs contest, which recognizes the best law offices in America. Kolesar & Leatham moved into Tivoli Village last year as the firm celebrated 25 years of service in Las Vegas.

Amanda Hurst
UNLV graduate Amanda Hurst recently joined White Horse Youth Ranch as its program manager. Hurst will oversee operations and logistics of the Diamonds in the Rough program, the only free horsemanship training in Las Vegas for children ages 8 to 18. The program aims to help children gain confidence and trust in themselves through the use of horses and to teach them to become productive members of their communities.

Jake Leifheit
After-School All-Stars Las Vegas, a nonprofit group that provides after-school programs to more than 6,000 young people in 14 Clark County schools, has hired Kari Salvati as director of finance and office management, and Jake Leifheit as program coordinator. Prior to joining ASAS Las Vegas, Salvati served as a finance and office manager for the Arizona Youth Partnership, where she managed more than 40 employees and an annual budget of $2.5 million. She has nearly a decade of experience in the finance industry. Leifheit will oversee programs at multiple schools, including “Lifetime Adventures,” an outdoor learning and wilderness program. He previously served as a program specialist at Harmonium, an after-school youth program in San Diego, and as a camp coordinator at the YMCA in La Jolla, Calif.
Dodie Askegard has been appointed assistant principal of the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre. Askegard will work under principal Anna Lantz to oversee the Las Vegas ballet school’s student body and faculty. Askegard danced with the Minnesota Dance Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Spokane Ballet and served as a director at the Ballet Arts Academy and Spokane Ballet.
Burton Cohen, chairman of the board of trustees for Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital, has been awarded the Nevada Hospital Association’s Southern Nevada Award for Trustee Excellence. He has spent the past 17 years serving on Sunrise’s board and currently is chairman. He also served two terms as president of the Nevada Resort Association.
