Shelli Ryan has been named chairman of the board for Dress for Success Southern Nevada, which helps local women get back on their feet by providing them professional clothing, support and career development tools. In its first three years, the charity has suited hundreds of women in the Las Vegas Valley.
Elie Wiesel will be awarded the Pursuit of Excellence Award for his literacy and activism in human rights by the Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus at the 8th Annual In Pursuit of Excellence Gala in November. Wiesel, a survivor of the Holocaust, has written more than 50 books of fiction and non-fictionand has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Nobel Peace Prize and U.S. Congressional Gold Medal. Wiesel has more than 100 honorary degrees from institutions of higher learning and is the president of the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, an organization he and his wife created to fight indifference, intolerance and injustice.

Greg Brower
Greg Brower, a partner in Snell and Wilmer’s Nevada offices, recently was appointed to the Nevada Veteran Suicide Task Force. The task force was created by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. Its mission is to study the causes of the extraordinarily high suicide rate among Nevada’s veterans and make recommendations about how to address the problem.
Former North Las Vegas Court Judge Stephen J. Dahl has joined the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada as an attorney in its Children’s Attorneys Project, providing legal representation to abused and neglected children in the foster care system.
Allstate exclusive agency owner Sally Hiew, of the Hiew Agency, has been designated an Allstate Premier Service Agent for 2012. She also was awarded the Chairman’s Conference and Inner Circle awards for high standards in customer satisfaction, customer retention and financial services sales.
Oscar B. Goodman Jr. has been hired as a medical oncologist and scientist at the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, the largest oncology provider in Nevada. Goodman will continue his lab research, which focuses on circulating tumor cells and using them as the basis for personalized therapies against prostate and other cancers, at Roseman University of Health Sciences in Henderson. Goodman previously worked as a medical oncologist at the UC San Diego Nevada Cancer Institute.
Dennis Neilander, former chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, has been appointed to the advisory board for the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling. Neilander served as a member of the Gaming Control Board from 1998 to 2010 and was chairman of the GCB for the last 10 years of his tenure, the longest service of any chairman. Prior to his work on the board, Neilander was a research analyst for the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau.
