    • Jonathon Garcia was promoted to general manager of SafeSplash Swim School, a which has three locations in Las Vegas and teaches swimming to children.

      Sandy Simpson is marketing coordinator at the law firm of Jeffrey Burr. She also works as a family services representative in the firm’s elder law division.

    • Anthony Cabot, a partner and gaming law attorney at Lewis and Roca, co-edited “Regulating Internet Gaming: Challenges and Opportunities,” published by UNLV Gaming Press. Cabot also was selected to be a keynote speaker at the Asia Pacific Conference on Gambling and Commercial Gaming Research in December in Taiwan.

    • Jason Loverude is director of marketing, Justin Minosa is marketing coordinator and graphic designer and Scot Prince is a brokerage associate at the Equity Group, a commercial real estate company. Loverude received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota, Minosa earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton, and Prince received his degree from UNR.

      J.D. Calhoun, senior analyst for supplier diversity at Southwest Gas, was named Buyer of the Year by the Nevada Minority Supplier Development Council, which works to increase business for minority suppliers.

    • UNLV law professor Bret Birdsong was appointed deputy solicitor for land resources at the U.S. Department of Interior in Washington, D.C. He counsels the Bureau of Land Management regarding almost 250 million acres of public land, including about 70 percent of Nevada’s land.

      The Nevada 150 planning committee selected Esther Carter as executive director of the state’s sesquicentennial celebration. Carter has 16 years of experience in event planning, advertising and public relations. The yearlong celebration launches Oct. 31, Nevada Day, and runs through Oct. 31, 2014.

    • Susan Bauman, president of Western Risk Insurance, was certified by the National Association of Health Underwriters in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

    • Ken Sarna, president of the Millennium Consulting Group, has written, “Crash and Burn: Rising from the Ashes after the Real Estate Collapse,” a guide for homeowners and real estate professionals.

      Former federal prosecutor Russell Marsh joined Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in the firm’s litigation practice. He previously served as chief of the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Nevada.

    • MGM Resorts International announced three senior level promotions. Alan Feldman is executive vice president of global government and industry affairs, Clark Dumont is senior vice president of corporate communications, and Jenn Michaels is senior vice president of public relations.

      Amanda Llewellyn is an account executive at the Ferraro Group, a public relations and public affairs firm. Llewellyn previously worked as a writer for the Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas Review-Journal and Santa Monica Observer.

    • J. Brin Gibson, a gaming and regulatory law attorney at Lionel Sawyer & Collins, was appointed to the Henderson Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors. He will serve a three-year term. Also, Ketan Bhirud, of the firm’s litigation department, joined the chamber’s IMPAC advisory committee, which advises members about government policy and advocates for their interests.

      Michelle Gianopoulos was promoted to senior staffing manager and Debbie Schmidt was promoted to vice president of staffing at Millenium Staffing and Management Services. Gianopoulos has 13 years of experience in the industry and previously worked as a human resources specialist and staffing manager. Schmidt joined Millenium in 2009 as a senior business development manager.

    • Allen Deep is community and events manager at American Casino Entertainment Properties. He will oversee aceplaypoker.com. Deep previously worked as a poker room coordinator at the Venetian and a casino host for ACEP.

    • Sallie Trout, of Trout Studios, joined the Las Vegas Green Chamber of Commerce.

    • Kimball Anderson, CEO of Southern Hills Hospital, was appointed Nevada interim regent for the American College of Healthcare Executives. His term expires in April 2015.

    • Cathe Shandle was promoted to national account manager at Ubiquita, which provides voice and IT services to commercial and retail businesses. She will oversee projects in Las Vegas, Arizona, Utah and Southern California.
