    • The annual U.S. Small Business Administration awards will be held June 6 at the Gold Coast. Nevada’s honorees are:

      • 2013 Small Business Persons of the Year: Robert Brian Edwards, CEO, and Joe Machin, COO, RO Bus Sales, Las Vegas

      • Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Ty Lee Salazar, operations manager, Logistical Solutions, North Las Vegas

      • Microenterprise Business Person of the Year: Katie Knapp, owner, Bumblebee Blooms, Reno

      • Minority-Owned Business of the Year: Promilla Mohan and Kunall Patel, Davidson’s Organics, Sparks

      • Women-Owned Business of the Year: Laura Zander, CEO, Jimmy Beans Wool, Reno

    • The National Association of Women Business Owners of Southern Nevada recognized 12 businesswomen during the 15th annual Women of Distinction Awards. The honorees were:

    • Paul Stowell

      Paul Stowell

      Paul Stowell, senior vice president and Nevada marketing/public relations manager of City National Bank, was named “Businessperson of the Year” by the Nevada Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America. The award recognizes businesspeople who have contributed to FBLA’s Project Based Learning program.

    • LeAnn Sanders, a partner at the Alverson, Taylor, Mortensen & Sanders law firm, was named a fellow of the International Society of Barristers.

    • John Wilcox

      John Wilcox

      John Wilcox will take over as Nevada regional executive for City National Bank to replace Larry Charlton, who retired. Wilcox has 31 years of experience in the banking industry. He will continue to serve as the regional banking manager for Core Banking, overseeing City National’s branches in Nevada and San Diego.

    • Dr. Dennis Arn, of the Desert Inn Animal Hospital, is a quarterly finalist for Pets Best Insurance’s “My Vet’s the Best” contest. The contest recognizes outstanding veterinarians and awards funding to treat animals in need.

    • M.J. Maynard

      M.J. Maynard

      M.J. Maynard, assistant general manager for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, was named the 2012 “O’Callaghan Public Sector Person of the Year” by the city of Henderson and Henderson Development. Award recipients are selected based on their contributions to the economic well-being of Henderson. Maynard joined the RTC in 2007.

    • Jerry Keating

      Jerry Keating

      Jerry Keating, assistant general manager and chief human resources officer of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, received the 2013 “Award of Excellence” from the National Public Employer Labor Relations Association. Keating was honored for his commitment to developing relationships with unions and for fostering a work culture in which employees feel valued. Keating joined the RTC in 2006.

    • Mark Cole

      Mark Cole

      Mark Cole, co-owner of Guns and Ammo Garage, an indoor shooting range off the Strip, was appointed director of the retail and range division of the Nevada Firearms Coalition. The coalition is a nonprofit group focused on promoting the safe use of firearms for self-defense, competition, recreation and hunting.
