Boulder City was selected as a finalist of the Cashman Good Government Award in the category “Cities under 100,000.” The award honors government entities and people whose ingenuity provide services to residents better, faster and for less expense.

Nevada State College’s Marydean Martin Library received the 2020 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award by the Association of College and Research Libraries. The college is the first Hispanic Serving Institution to win the college category of the association’s Academic Libraries Award. Additionally, it is the only academic library in the state to be honored with the award.

Goodwill of Southern Nevada announced the addition of Latoya Bembry and John Helderman to its board of directors. Bembry, director of strategic communications for the Ferraro Group, has an extensive background in communications and will provide vital expertise to the board. Helderman, a former board member, and CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada, returns to the board and brings an established understanding and prevalent insight to the organization.

Henderson Hospital was named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety by the Women’s Choice Award, a health care referral source. The award signifies that Henderson Hospital is in the top 8% of 4,814 U.S. hospitals for patient safety.

Gov. Steve Sisolak appointed Brenda Scolari as director for the Nevada Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs. Since December 2018, Scolari has served as acting director of the department, where she has overseen the Division of Tourism, the Division of Museums and History, the Nevada Arts Council and the Nevada Indian Commission. Prior to that, she served as deputy director, leading the marketing, public relations and sales and industry partners teams.

Southwest Medical added five physicians to help meet the growing need for health services in the community: Kelli Ann Biggans, PA, a physician assistant in the cardiology department; Julie Cipriani, LPN, a licensed practical nurse; Dolores Lebron-Gallagher, PA, a physician assistant in the cardiology department; Meagan Schaetzle, MA, a medical assistant in the cardiology department; and Jordan Kern, an associate patient care coordinator.

CSI DMC, a destination and event management production company, expanded its west coast team with the hiring of Karin Gillard as senior account executive. Based in Las Vegas, Gillard brings two decades of hospitality experience, including a career with some of the biggest names in luxury hotel brands, where she developed her expertise for creating compelling and exciting experiences for clients ranging from major automobile manufacturers to high-end lifestyle brands.

Christopher Loftus was appointed CEO and managing director of Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center. He leads the overall strategic plan for the 293-bed hospital and works with the senior team and medical staff regarding quality initiatives, patient satisfaction, service excellence, business development and financial performance. He previously served as chief operating officer at Summerlin and Henderson hospitals.
