Las Vegas among top destinations for Labor Day weekend travel

Even with triple-digit temperatures, Las Vegas is still a hot destination for end-of-summer travelers, according to two travel websites.

Orbitz released its list of top Labor Day destinations, and Las Vegas took the No. 2 spot, down one from the travel website’s list last year. New York bumped Las Vegas from the top slot this year.

Other popular destinations on this year’s list include Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Orlando, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles and Atlanta. The rankings are based on air and hotel bookings on as of Aug. 1.

Average airfares for Las Vegas based on bookings from the travel website were $325 for Labor Day weekend while average room rates were $114.

Las Vegas also ranked high on Priceline’s most popular Labor Day destination list, coming in at No. 3. New York ranked No. 1 and Chicago took the No. 2 spot. The list is based off hotel searches on for the holiday weekend.

Brian Ek, Priceline’s senior travel analyst, said this year’s list shows U.S. travelers are choosing to spend Labor Day weekend closer to home.

St. Louis, Atlanta, Seattle, Niagara Falls and Charlotte were other destinations in Priceline’s Top 10 for the holiday weekend.
