FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada
English Language Program Grand Opening
On February 29, 2012, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada will celebrate the grand opening of the English Language Program’s new location. The event will take place from 9 A.M to 11 A.M. at the Catholic Charities Donald W. Reynolds St. Vincent Plaza campus. The building is located at 1526 North Main Street.
Brad Deeds of the Nevada Department of Education will speak and participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony. A tour of the facility will be given and clients from our program will speak on their journey to the U.S. and how learning English and living here has changed their lives.
Located at the corner of Main Street and Owens Avenue, the English Language Program offers free English classes to the public and to our Migration and Refugee Services’ clients. Our classes are taught with a professional instructor and a state-of-the-art computer lab to help individuals improve their language skills and help our refugee clients learn about American life and the southern Nevada work place.
Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) has provided refugee resettlement since 1975. MRS serves as both the local resettlement agency and state refugee office in Nevada. These are people who have been forced into exile by war, political or religious persecution. The goal of this program is to help refugee clients achieve economic self-sufficiency in the shortest time possible. By the time the clients arrive at the airport, the MRS team has implemented services to assist clients in their new country. We provide furnished apartments, cultural orientation, short-term financial and medical assistance from a federal grant, offer mandatory English Language Program instruction, and assist clients in finding and securing employment.
Catholic Charities is one of the largest nonprofit social service providers in the state, offering the most comprehensive range of human services. Catholic Charities includes 24 diverse programs designed to help people of all ages– infants, men, women, children, and seniors– regardless of race, religion, or creed.
