KIA Honor Flag Signing for Specialist Douglas J Green Tuesday, January 15, 2013
The KIA Honor Flag program has been in existence since 2003 and benefits families of those in the U.S. military who are killed in combat. It’s a way to honor U.S. killed in action (KIA), died of wounds (DOW), and any member of the U.S. military, civilian, or public safety who died while serving our country. Eagle Emblems, Inc. is the corporate sponsor of KIA Honor Flags. The Flag is to Honor those who have Gone Before, To Support those who Serve & To Embrace those Left Behind.

Honor Flag Package into the hands of a Gold Star Family. It is also heart wrenching at times too. Nonetheless, we must remind those families left behind that they and their sacrifice for our nation is not forgotten. " Across the country there are Ghost Soldiers, Spirit Warriors, VFW, American Legion presenting KIA Honor Flags to the Fallen across the nation on an ongoing basis. “More and more people are appreciating, accepting and paying more respect to our Nations Fallen”, said Cohen.
Nevada’s first 2013 KIA Honor Flag signing will take place at the Tuscany Hotel & Casino’s 2nd floor convention lobby in remembrance of Specialist Doug Green. The brief ceremony will take place at 4pm on Tuesday, Janaury 15th to honor our nations killed in action and others who died while serving in the military and public service. The public is encouraged to attend and sign Spc. Doug Green’s KIAHonor Flag. This flag will be officially presented to the family at a later date.
Specialist Douglas J Green enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2007; just after graduating high school. He graduated from basic and advanced training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After completing his training, Doug was sent to Alaska in March of 2008. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. During his time in the Army, he served two tours. His first tour was in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his second and last tour was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
SPC Douglas J. Green lost his life on August 28, 2011 at the age of 23; while serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He was killed in action when insurgents attacked his unit using a makeshift bomb and small arms fire. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor, posthumously, the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
