Las Vegas UPS Team Wins Gold Stevie Award

LAS VEGAS, NV – March 2, 2012 – UPS was presented with a Gold Stevie® Award in the Front-Line Customer Service Team of the Year - All Other Industries category in the sixth annual Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service.

A team of UPS employees based in Las Vegas were part of the customer service team responsible for providing the world-class service that won the gold for UPS. UPS’ social media teams interact with customers via UPS’s Facebook page and on Twitter using the @UPSHelp account, easily combining their knowledge of UPS service with tech-savvy skills.

“For almost 105 years, delivering exceptional customer service has been a fundamental component of UPS culture– from our drivers and account executives to our customer service representatives,” said UPS Global Business Services President Larry Darrow. “We continue to implement new technologies and utilize additional communications channels – like social media – to connect with our customers and to enhance our customers’ experience. The Salt Lake team members were significant contributors to our overall social media success and recognition by the Stevie Awards.”

“We have been interfacing with customers via our Twitter account for less than one year and have already passed the 20,000 mark for tweets sent,” said Las Vegas resident and UPS Social Media Manager Sarah Payne. “Our customer service representatives are driven to provide world-class service to all of our customers. What’s different is that we’ve enhanced our processes and systems to meet the changing needs of some of our customers by offering social media as a contact channel.”

Ms. Payne’s social media team in Las Vegas includes: Supervisor Lori D’Addario, Mohammad Chams, Letecia Kanahele, Geneva Mains, Demetrius Robinsons, Chandra Torkkola and Javier Willis.

The Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service are the world’s top sales awards, contact center awards, and customer service awards. The Stevie Awards organizes several of the world’s leading business awards shows including the prestigious American Business AwardsSM and International Business AwardsSM.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word for “crowned,” the trophies were presented to honorees during a gala banquet on Monday, February 27 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. More than 350 nominated customer service and sales executives from the U.S.A. and several other countries attended. The presentations were broadcast live by the Business TalkRadio Network.

More than 1,000 entries from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted to this year’s competition, an increase of almost 30% over 2011. Finalists were determined by the average scores of 93 professionals worldwide, acting as preliminary judges. Entries were considered in 27 categories for customer service professionals, including Contact Center of the Year, Award for Innovation in Customer Service, and Customer Service Department of the Year; 38 categories for sales professionals, ranging from Senior Sales Executive of the Year to Sales Training or Coaching Program of the Year to Sales Department of the Year of the Year; and categories to recognize new products and services and solution providers.

More than 100 members of seven specialized judging committees determined Stevie Award placements from among the Finalists during final judging this year.
