The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN) will host its annual conference at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, April 15-18, 2013. As part of the conference, AAOHN is challenging members and guests to help relieve the hunger problem in Las Vegas by making contributions to Three Square Food Bank.
As the largest organization of occupational and environmental health nurses, AAOHN and its members promote and protect the health of workers in the United States and abroad. Occupational and environmental health nurses not only provide and manage the care of ill and injured workers, which leads to reduced time away from work and cost savings to employers, they also promote workplace safety, wellness activities, health screenings and educational offerings.
“Occupational and environmental health nurses encourage healthy lifestyles for workers,” said AAOHN President Catherine Pepler. “Helping to relieve hunger in Las Vegas is a natural extension of our mission and one small way that the AAOHN conference can make a positive, socially responsible impact in our conference’s host city.”
Nine hundred nurses from across the United States will attend the 2013 AAOHN Conference. To participate in the food drive, they can bring canned goods or non-perishable food items to The Cosmopolitan Monday, April 15. A collection barrel will be on site at the conference from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. PDT. Participants also can donate funds online any time by following links on the AAOHN website, aaohn.org. Three Square encourages monetary donations because for every one dollar they raise, they can provide three meals.
