Yellow Checker Star Transportation Recognizes Sacrifice of Metro Officer

LAS VEGAS – (August 27, 2013) Yellow Checker Star Transportation (YCS), a Nevada based taxi service with the state’s largest alternative fuel fleet, is donating $5,000 to the family of deceased Metro Police Officer David Vanbuskirk. The officer, a member of the police department’s search and rescue team, was helping hoist a stranded Mount Charleston hiker to a rescue helicopter on July 22 when the officer became detached from the line and fell to his death.

“Metro officers keep our communities and our streets safe. Yellow Checker Star wants to recognize and honor Vanbuskirk’s sacrifice, along with the efforts of all Metro officers,” said YCS Director Jonathan Schwartz.

Officer Vanbuskirk, 36, of Henderson, had been with Metro since October 1999 and with the department's Search and Rescue Section since February 2007, according to Metro officials.

The donated funds will benefit Vanbuskirk’s widow.

"As a transportation company, we of course spend a lot of time on this city’s roads and streets, and we see the work that Metro police officers perform day after day. Officer Vanbuskirk made the ultimate sacrifice," Schwartz said.

YCS encourages other businesses and individuals to contribute. Donations for Officer VanBuskirk's family can be made at any Wells Fargo bank. The account is under Injured Police Officer Fund 6102.
