Vet Tech students honored in Northeast ceremony
NORFOLK, Neb. –Students enrolled in the veterinary technology program at Northeast Community College were honored last week in a special ceremony witnessed by family and friends.
Members of the Class of 2012 received the veterinary technician’s pin. Members of the Class of 2013 were awarded a monogrammed white coat to mark their formal acceptance in to the vet tech program at Northeast.
The ceremony was opened with a welcome by Dr. Mike Cooper, DVM and program director, and John Blaylock, vice president of educational services. Corinne Morris, associate dean of the agriculture, health and science division at Northeast, was the guest speaker.
Josh Schlote, LVT, administered the Veterinary Technician’s Oath to the Class of 2013 and 2012 and reminded the students that they are the voice for the animal. Dr. Amanda Hafer, DVM, commended students in both classes for their decision to become veterinary technicians and pointed out strong attributes of each member of the Class of 2012 that will serve them well in the profession. Both Dr. Hafer and Schlote are vet tech instructors at Northeast Community College.
These sophomore students were pinned during the ceremony: Emily Seeley, Las Vegas, Nev.; Jessi Metz, Pittsburgh, Penn.; Katie Voight, Avon, S.D., and Hanna Jansen, Yankton, S.D.
Vet Tech Club president Shyla Kemp, Columbus, gave the closing remarks.
