Launch a business this weekend!
Startup Weekend Las Vegas @ UNLV will connect dozens of local entrepreneurs
and startup enthusiasts to share ideas and launch companies
Las Vegas – Startup Weekend Las Vegas will connect local entrepreneurs, developers, designers and startup enthusiasts with mentors and resources at its 7th event November 22-24, 2013 during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Throughout the course of this 54-hour event, attendees will share ideas, form teams, and launch startups.
Here’s how it works: The weekend is easily broken down into Pitch, Build, Present. Friday is pitch night when anyone with an idea gets one minute to pitch to the crowd. The crowd votes on the top 8-10 ideas, we start to form teams and build. We build all day Saturday until around 4:00 on Sunday (with some awesome meals mixed in). Finally, Sunday is launch day where teams will have the opportunity to present their ideas to investors, industry leaders. A few awesome ideas and their entrepreneurs have even gone on to hire employees and receive funding. Winning teams are entered into a global competition for over $500,000 in prizes including $20,000 in funding.
Startup veterans and mentors will be on hand throughout the weekend to provide expertise and give talks on their experiences in the fast-paced world of technology startups.
“It is a wonderful thing to see startups and established firms relocating to Las Vegas, but I have long been a proponent of growing our own. That's one reason I love being a part of Startup Weekend - the innovative ideas, the intensity and focus, the teamwork and sharing, the businesses that can come out of the weekend. It's an entrepreneurial adrenaline rush. My career at UNLV has focused on helping our students build their skill sets to recognize their passions, leverage opportunities, and execute their plans and I am so excited that Startup Weekend is happening at the UNLV Startup Center. Great things happen here!”
Dr. Janet Runge, UNLV School of Business, Global Entrepreneurship Director
Startup Weekend Las Vegas is organized locally by UNLV Students. Nevada State Bank, Lionel Sawyer & Collins, Originate and the UNLV Startup Center are sponsors.
