American men 50 percent more likely to gamble in Las Vegas than women, survey reveals

A survey, conducted by gaming information portal LiveRoulette.co.uk, has revealed that American men are 50% more likely to visit Las Vegas with the intention of gambling compared to women.
Live Roulette’s survey demonstrates that gambling in Vegas is much more popular with men, 25.9% of whom identified gambling as their “main reason” to visit Las Vegas versus only 16.7% of women.
The website asked 500 US respondents, ‘What would be the main reason for you to visit Las Vegas?’ The most popular response was ‘General Entertainment e.g. Shows and Concerts’ (29.2%), followed by ‘Family Holiday’ (22.1%), with ‘Gambling’ coming in third (21.9%). These data suggest that ‘Sin City’ is no longer regarded primarily as a casino capital by Americans, being embraced instead for its range of entertainment industries.
A number of headlines in recent months have suggested that Las Vegas tourism is fundamentally changing. People are flocking to the city in record-breaking numbers, but they’re spending far less at the casinos.
For the young (i.e. the 18-24 bracket) Vegas’ legendary ‘Clubs and Nightlife’ proved by far the most popular attraction. Older subjects showed a very clear preference for Vegas’ theatrical and musical attractions, with 40.5% of respondents from this age bracket electing this as their chief motivation to pay a visit to Las Vegas.
Casino industry writer, Joseph Attard stated: “The city today has to diversify in response to a changing tourist population. A lot more women are visiting the city these days, and their primary interests seem to be fundamentally different than those of men.
“Historically, gambling - and casino culture in particular - have been regarded as primarily male-dominated pursuits and this report suggests that this impression endures. It seems that a lot of women are still put off by the casino environment.”
