LAS VEGAS – A Nevada man has been honored as the top garage door technician in the world by the International Door Association.
Traves Tappan received the 2014 Technician of the Year award during the IDA’s president’s awards banquet April 24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The IDA represents garage door dealers in 30 countries and honors a door technician who represents the best of the industry once a year.
Tappan currently works as commercial manager for Martin Garage Doors of Nevada.
Despite the award, Tappan is not taking himself too seriously.
“I’m humbled by it but by the same token I think there are others who are probably more qualified,” Tappan said of the citation.
Ken Martin, owner of MGD of Nevada, doesn’t think so.
“Traves is an amazing employee, a completely trained door and gate technician, and an outstanding man. He is full of integrity and safety oriented, one of the most qualified, hard-working men I have ever known,” Martin said.
Tappan said his philosophy is he works for the customer. He admits he gets an adrenaline rush out of helping to resolve a problem, or to meet a need. He asks his customers to call him at anytime, including late nights, if a problem arises.
