David Robinson Teams Up With U.S. Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes Program to Provide Free Online Resources for Veteran & Military Spouse Entrepreneurs
Thrive15 Teaches U.S. Military How to Succeed As Entrepreneurs
Washington, DC (July 1, 2014) – Former U.S. Navy Officer and NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson and Thrive15.com have teamed up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Program to support veteran and military spouse entrepreneurs.Thrive15.com, provides free online resources for America’s military by giving a subscription to U.S. veterans, active-duty service members, and military spouses. For every paid subscriber, a free subscription is given to the military through Thrive15’s 1 for 1 HandUp Movement.
Robinson, who is an equity partner and mentor on Thrive15.com, is excited about the partnership adding, "If our country did not have a strong military, our entrepreneurial spirit would be relatively worthless. I'm passionate about helping the men and women that serve in our military because I have personal experience with it. I know the costs that we pay to protect our country. The Thrive15 1 for 1 HandUp Movement is a way for us to say thank you to our military members."
Although most people know David Robinson for his two NBA World Championships, his two Olympic Gold Medals, his bronze Olympic Medal and his NBA MVP trophy he earned during his playing career, he has been just as successful off the court as an entrepreneur, educator and philanthropist. With his partnership with Thrive15.com, he is making yet another big impact in those three areas.
On Thrive15.com, Robinson, along with other entrepreneurial success stories, mentor business owners by teaching accounting, leadership, business models, capital, sales, marketing, mindset and countless other topics entrepreneurs must master to become successful.
“Thrive15’s HandUp Movement is already making a difference for so many
veterans looking to start their own businesses,” said Eric Eversole, vice president at the U.S. Chamber and executive director of Hiring Our Heroes. “And the fact that David Robinson is a partner in this movement should be that much more encouraging for military members and their families. We’re excited to help spread the word far and wide about this amazing opportunity for our Vets.” According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2013, 722,000 U.S. Veterans were unemployed.
Hiring Our Heroes launched in March 2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. The goal of the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign with Capital One is to engage the business community in committing to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.
