Annapolis, Maryland, USA, June 27, 2012—ARINC Incorporated is pleased to join in the celebration of today’s grand opening of the new Terminal 3 at McCarran International Airport. As a proud platinum sponsor, ARINC is honored to have played an integral role in the development of the most technologically advanced terminal in North America.
The new facility encompasses 1.9 million square feet on three floors and houses fourteen aircraft gates that can be configured to accommodate varying traffic loads for different carriers. The gates are equipped with self-boarding technology supplied by ARINC through its partnership with KABA. This new technology allows passengers to scan their boarding pass, pass through the gate, and board their flights without assistance from an airline agent. Passengers are also able to self-tag their baggage using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags that ensure proper processing through the airport’s eight miles of baggage conveyors. McCarran International was the first airport in the world to implement IATA’s Common-Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS) standard in January 2009 and the common-use systems in place today represent the latest in international standards for both CUPPS and Common-Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks. It is one of only two airports worldwide to employ RFID as a means of sorting and tracking all baggage using ARINC’s advanced baggage messaging technology.
“From self-tagging to self-boarding, the new terminal was built with the most advanced technology available. Everything is 100 percent common-use and was selected with the primary goal of providing passengers with a pleasurable, seamless travel experience,” said Randall H. Walker, Director of the Clark County Department of Aviation.
“Working with the Clark County Department of Aviation to provide technology that would positively affect more than 40 million passengers annually cemented the already strong relationship between ARINC and McCarran International Airport,” said John M. Belcher, ARINC Chairman and CEO. “As a primary provider of common use passenger processing systems in the existing McCarran Terminals 1 and 2, ARINC is proud to continue our long-standing partnership with McCarran to help position T3 as the benchmark for all other airports,” Belcher continued.
Today’s official grand opening caps off a month-long public awareness campaign that featured a 5K and 10K Fun Run around the new terminal’s roadway system, a community open house with tours and giveaways, and a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce mixer to showcase the artwork housed in the new terminal.
