    • Three UNLV Lee Business School faculty members have received the top real estate research paper award and a $25,000 cash prize from the American Real Estate Society. Nasser Daneshvary, professor of economics and director of the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies; Mike Clauretie, professor emeritus of economics; and Ahmad Kader, an economics lecturer, received the Legacy Award for a work published in the Journal of Real Estate Research. Their article, “Short-Term Own-Price and Spillover Effects of Distressed Residential Properties: The Case of a Housing Crash” appeared in the April-June 2011 edition and was selected as the best work in the publication since 2009. The article included significant housing policy implications and was the first academic paper to call for government and private-sector support for short sales to mitigate foreclosures. The Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies in the Lee Business School is ranked 21st among more than 800 programs in the world for the number of articles published in three top specialty journals — Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, and Real Estate Economics. UNLV is ranked just below Cornell and University of Southern California and above Yale and Harvard.

      Andres Irlando is president of the southwest region of Verizon Wireless, replacing Brian Danfield, who has been named a vice president in the company’s Basking Ridge, N.J., headquarters. In his position, Irlando oversees the company’s sales, operations, financial performance and customer experience in Las Vegas, St. George, Utah; Cedar City, Utah; Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas.

      Dreana Resler

      Mariana Johnson is Nevada regional sales advisor of City National Bank and Dreana Resler is branch manager of its Twain office. Resler fills the vacancy left by Johnson’s promotion. She had previously been relationship manager of that office. Johnson joined City National in 2010, and has more than 30 years’ experience.

      Mark Tratos, co-managing shareholder of the Las Vegas office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been named 2013-14 chair-elect of the National Judicial College by its board of trustees. He will work on planning and preparation efforts for the NJC’s 50th anniversary and has been a member of the board of trustees since 2008.

      Greg Smith, a lawyer with the firm of Lionel Sawyer & Collins, has been recognized for a third year by Human Resource Executive as one of the nation’s top labor and employment attorneys. He serves as chair of the firm’s labor and employment practice group.

    • The FBI Las Vegas Citizens Academy Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization that promotes law enforcement education and outreach with emphasis on the FBI, has announced its 2012 board of trustees.     • Hearts On Fire, a fine diamond jewelry retailer, has opened at the Forum Shops.

    • 3 Martini Lunch Advertising & Design has relocated its main office to Holsum Lofts in the Arts District in downtown Las Vegas.
