Guardian Elite Medical Services donated $1,200 worth of equipment to Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy to help make its ambulance simulator more realistic and helpful with training. The academy is part of the Clark County School District.

The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program has awarded a $30,000 one-year grant to St. Rose Dominican Hospitals’ R.E.D. Rose Program so it can improve awareness about breast cancer and provide mammogram screenings and financial assistance for those who lack adequate insurance coverage. It is the second year that the program has received Avon funding.

About 90 Bank of Nevada employees and their families participated in the 2012 Junior Achievement annual “Luau at the Lanes” fundraiser at Texas Station. Money raised from the event helps provide financial literacy programs to more than 20,000 K-12 students in Clark County.

A total of 230 volunteered to have their heads shaved, helping raise more than $100,000 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation for Cancer Research at the annual fundraiser at Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York. Rí Rá Las Vegas raised more than $27,000 at the event, which funds research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

An uninsured Las Vegas resident received medically necessary surgery to repair a double hernia at no cost from Helping Hands Surgical Care, a nonprofit founded by Dr. Kevin Petersen. It was the 13th free surgery performed by HHSC since its launch in November 2011.

Health care provider CareMore made a $10,000 grant to the nonprofit Helping Hands of Vegas Valley to help fund its low-income qualified food pantry, which serves an average of 355 clients monthly.

MGM Resorts International pledged $1 million in support of One Drop, a non-governmental organization that promotes awareness of the central role of water. The amount was pledged March 22, designated as World Water Day. One Drop was initiated by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte, and fights poverty through projects aimed at supporting access to water, and by raising awareness of water-related issues.

Global financial services firm Chase donated a single-family residence to Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada, which is using it to provide affordable housing to a qualified family. More than 40 Chase employees volunteered time to repair and renovate the property on March 24.

The Hard Rock Cafes in Las Vegas were honored by Nevada PEP for their partnership with the charity in March. The cafes have a yearlong “Rock the Cause” philanthropic initiative in which they focus on one cause a month and partner with a related charity. March focused on anti-bullying and the cafes partnered with Nevada PEP, a local charity that works toward strengthening families of children with disabilities through education, empowerment and encouragement.

The Sands Foundation pledged $1 million to the new Discovery Children’s Museum at the Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center in Symphony Park in downtown Las Vegas. It is the largest single donation to the new museum campaign since the lead gift from the Smith Center for the Performing Arts and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation in 2010. The gift will help open the new children’s museum this year.

The Rainbow Dreams Academy, the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce and Bridger Middle School, three Las Vegas organizations seeking to enrich the lives of youth, received an estimated $15,000 in donations from the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation. The donation includes 60 bicycles for Bridger Middle School students. The Latin Chamber will receive $5,000 for its Community Foundation Scholarship Program, which matches dollars for students who wish to enroll in the Nevada System of Higher Education institutions. The Rainbow Dreams Academy will receive $5,000 for the charter school’s before- and after-school program.

Dress for Success Southern Nevada, an affiliate of the international nonprofit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women, received a $10,000 grant from Wells Fargo to enhance its outreach programs.

A total of $834,555 for community services to fund an array of programs has been donated by the Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Donations will go to St. Rose Dominican Hospitals’ R.E.D. Rose program and its Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Centers of Excellence; Nevada Health Centers, Inc., Mammovan; the Center for Compassionate Care; the O’Callaghan Resource Integrated Oncology Network; Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada; and the organization Research, Education and Access Community for Health.

Dollar Loan Center donated $25,000 to Henderson Little League, more than doubling its 2011 donation to help fund the organization, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Some 1,500 supplemental textbooks were distributed to Robert O. Gibson Middle School students as part of the mutual partnership between the Latin Chamber of Commerce, Another Joy Foundation, the Clark County School District and the Public Education Foundation. The school is receiving textbooks in English and Spanish for use as supplemental teaching material in its Dual Language Immersion Academy, which promotes academic advancement by providing students the opportunity for educational growth.

Caesars Entertainment and a number of its entertainment partners contributed $80,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to the annual AIDS Walk Las Vegas held April 15 at UNLV. The event is Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s largest fundraiser of the year, and helps fund programs to assist and educate more than 3,500 men, women and children infected with HIV and AIDS in Southern Nevada.

Women’s Generation Health Care teamed with Independent Providers Network to support a leadership development mini-camp for girls in foster care. The teen girls are members of the HerShe Group, which prepares girls in foster care to successfully transition into adulthood. WGHC and IPN donated more than $1,000 to underwrite the cost of food and lodging for the April 13-15 event.

The Nevada State Contractors Board and the Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association donated a new air conditioning unit to a local homeowner as part of their Mission Cool Off program, which donates new units to needy families or individuals with special circumstances.

Origin India Restaurant & Bar hosted the “Give the Gift of Happy Summer Memories” benefit cocktail party fundraiser for Camp K’helah children on May 5. All proceeds were donated to the Camp K’helah fund established by the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, intended to help more children attend the summer program. Camp K’helah provides a progression of programs designed for skill and social development.

Tropicana Express resort in Laughlin donated a railroad and memorabilia to the Las Vegas Railroad Society’s Railroad Heritage Park. The estimated value of the donation is $1 million. Pan Western Trucking donated transport of the trains and Vision Sign donated loading services.
